Anthony Hoff Recovery Celebration
$4000 Raised - September 2012
What an incredible event for an incredible young man! Nolan's Irish Pub and the Cocoa Beach Firefighters teamed up to throw a Recovery Celebration for Anthony Hoff after he suffered a BMX biking accident. And boy did the community come together in a big way! Dozens of sponsors donated over 60 prizes that were raffled and auctioned over the course of a few hours spent with an impressive showing of friends, relatives, previous classmates and supportive residents . Anthony lead Brevard Pipes and Drums through Nolan's and cracked a few jokes along the way, accepting a signed Adam Taylor custom helmet at the end of the night. The show of local support was impressive and the donations were generous - resulting in a few thousand dollars to get the Hoff family back on their feet! This is the type of event that makes Cocoa Beach unique and we were honored to be a part of it!

Citizens Academy April 2012
The Cocoa Beach Fire Department performed a mock demonstration for the 2012 Citizens Academy last week. The scenario replicated multiple injured workers on an elevated roof top where Paramedics had to make access to the victims, treat them, package them in reinforced (Stokes) baskets and lower them
to the ground using the Aerial Truck and tethers. This type of call is known as "High-Angle Rescue" and is one of the more advanced technical and labor intensive type of call the Cocoa Beach Fire Department is capable of mitigating. The Citizens Academy is designed for residents who desire to get an "insiders look" at the intracacies of the City of Cocoa Beach departments and their functions.

Chilifest has been around for over twenty years and since the beginning, the Firefighters have donated part of the proceeds to Shriners Hospitals for Children® . Shriners Hospitals deliver life-changing medical care without placing financial burden on the families of their patients by providing advanced care, surgery and rehabilitation for burn victims, cleft lip and palate, spinal cord and orthopedic injuries completely free of charge. We want to coporately thank all of the businesses here in Cocoa Beach who make this event possible each year. Cocoa Beach High School - ALS Demonstration
January 2012
Students from Cocoa Beach High School had a slight change in curriculum this month. Several students who recently completed a CPR and AED training course were visited by members of the Cocoa Beach Fire Department to discuss Advanced Life Support and the responsibilities that Firefighter Paramedics have in our community with respect to life safety. Gloved hands at the ready, students were exposed to advanced air way techniques, intravenous access, full spinal immobilization, use of life-saving medications and cardio-electrical therapy such as defibrillation and pacing. Several of these young adults are interested in pursuing medical-oriented careers in some capacity and a few are even considering becoming a Paramedic!
"Secret Santa"
December 2011
The Holidays were a little brighter for several Cocoa Beach and Brevard County families this year. Liz Bass and her Team of Elves were able to fulfill the Wish Lists of several families that needed a little help taking the pressure off by providing toys and delivering them to mom or dad “Secret-Santa-Style”. The Cocoa Beach Police and Fire Departments have always worked closely with Liz over the years in making Christmas wishes come true and this year the Fire Department had the unique and touching privilege of visiting one of the sponsored families at their home in the Fire Truck on Christmas Day. Liz Bass has coordinated “Secret Santa” for over twenty years - raising thousands of dollars to help hundreds of families right here in Cocoa Beach.
Keri's Fight Against Cervical Cancer
$1,000 Raised - November 2011
We want to thank everyone for their help and support with our fundraiser for Keri. We had a great turn-out and were able to raise $1,600 dollars for Keri’s family to offset travel expenses and medical bills. The Surfboard Raffle was a huge success and we made some great friends along the way! Our biggest thanks to Pelican Surfboards and Grind for Life for their tremendous display of compassion and generous giving – the event would not have been possible without you. We are happy to say that Keri’s recent surgery was also successful and we are believing for a speedy recovery, peace for the family and permanent remission.
